How does 3840 x 2160 (Quad HD) sound? Well, DisplayPort already has the technical specs to handle that sort of data, so it's only a matter of time before we have TVs with more pixels in them than the population of your standard Australian town. Until then, you can enjoy current Full HD resolutions (and more) on high res displays with a single 2m Display Port male to male cable. As well as video, Display Port can also handle up to 8 channels of audio for 7.1 compatibility, along with DPCP (DisplayPort Content Protection).

Technical Specifications

The DisplayPort connector supports 1, 2, or 4 data pairs in a Main Link that also carries clock and optional audio signals, each with a symbol rate of 1.62 Gbps or 2.7 Gbps. The video signal path supports from 6 to 16 bits per colour channel. A bi-directional auxiliary channel (at a constant 1 Mbps) carries management and device control data for the Main Link. DisplayPort currently supports a maximum of 8.64 Gbps over a distance of 2 meters.

While all DisplayPort cables are fully compatible with all DisplayPort devices, not all devices output the same types of data, so check your manuals to ensure your equipment will speak the same language and do what you need them to.
