I have read that TOSLINK only transmits 3 simultaneous audio channels. Does this mean it can't transmit even 5.1 audio?
"TOSLINK Digital Optical can certain output DOlby Digital 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 digitally encoded signals."

Can all devices with an optical port use TOSLINK?
"There are several kind of optical connections available, plus optical cables are used in all sorts of other applications outside of Home Theatre, however in the Home Theatre world, yes if a device has a TOSLINK port, it will support TOSLINK cables.
Also commonly found on smaller devices like portable music players is the 3.5mm Mini-TOSLINK connector."
