RCDs (residual current devices), also commonly called safety switches, are designed to cut the power in a fraction of a second in the event of a fault, preventing electrocution. The circuits in your house may predate the use of RCDs at the breaker panel, or you might want to use a device on an outlet that you can't know is protected or not. This handy portable unit is as safe as a permanent RCD installation, and works to prevent deadly electrical accidents in the home or office.
RCDs are not a substitute for common sense around mains electricity. While they are reliable in most situations, they may not be foolproof in all cases. They are also not a substitute for current overload devices such as fuses and circuit breakers, nor are they equivalent to a surge protector or UPS. RCDs offer an extra layer of protection against electrocution in circumstances where you may contact faulty equipment. In the case of electric leakage, the device will automatically shut off the power supply and prevent electricity reaching human bodies.
For indoor use only.
