Reliable speed readings with optional compass and over-speed warnings.
Yes, your car probably already has a perfectly good speedometer. But what if your classic coupe has MPH and you need a quick way for any driver to know their KPH? What about vehicles with no backlight for night driving? What if you need to know your speed when there's simply no other speedo available?
Well, this handy unit is a great solution to all your speed-measuring requirements. It offers Kilometres per Hour or Miles per Hour readings on a big seven-segment display that's clear and readable in daylight, and can auto-dim for night-time driving. It also features a compass indicator (optional) that shows your nearest cardinal heading. You can even configure up to three different speed alarms that make the display flash when you go over each limit.
You can fine-tune the speed display if you find the GPS reading doesn't match a reference speedometer, but our tests showed that the unit was typically a few K's conservative of actual speed - but the variation changes at different speeds. You might be two K's shy at 40 but right on the money at 70. So, this isn't a highly calibrated device for verifying your Guinness world record attempt, but a handy way to see your approximate speed at a glance - much easier than reading the Waze speedo!
The only downside is that it can take ninety seconds to link to the GPS before the speed is displayed, and of course it doesn't work in tunnels or underground parking lots. Included in the kit is a suction cup mount and a 1.8m Micro USB cable for connecting to your car's USB outlet or a car charger (charger sold separately). It can run off a battery bank, but it draws such a small amount of power that many powerbanks will switch themselves off after a short period so please test before your first important journey!
