If you're in the market for super-simple digital signage, this clever solution may be the answer to all your worries!
This product offers an easy way to play media on a display without having to go through menus or fiddle with a remote control every time. By reading video files or photos direct from removable media, it’s an excellent choice for businesses of all sizes who need to get content on a TV with a minimum of technical know-how. Litterally just plug and play.
Out of the box, it starts up in about 20 seconds and will begin playing compatible files from the root folder of a USB stick. The flash drive can be attached before or after boot-up, and it'll read right away. Best practice is to load ONLY video files (MP4 works best) or ONLY photos (e.g. JPG) - mixing both still images and video files can be problematic (read below). Images display for 10 seconds before switching. Both videos and images will loop automatically after all files have been displayed.
Advanced features are available, including auto power-off and network (ethernet or wifi) access to the mounted storage volume for adding and removing files. You can use the included remote control to change settings, including aspect ratio, removing files and more.
This Media Player is powered by a custom light-weight Android OS, but can't be loaded with any new apps or features. It's compatible with most common file types such as MP4, MP3, AVI and MOV, but some oddball video files may be rejected. It also comes with a cloud-based digital signage management app (https://slideshow.digital/) which is a powerful option for remote maintenance.
Includes the media player unit, remote control and user guide. Does NOT include USB stick, HDMI cable or 2xAAA batteries. Check the PDF Brochure below for more information on features. We tested the core automatic playback functions ourselves; and we liked it!
What it's good at:
Quick set-up - just plug and play. Auto start and auto re-start from power off or power failure. Smart TV's can play media from USB, but often not automatically like this unit does. Works very well with MP4 files, with or without audio tracks, up to 4K30. Important config options (timers, aspect ratio settings, etc) are remembered after power cycle.
What it's not good at:
Mixed media. Without using the slideshow.digital service, default automatic playback from USB gets stuck in slideshow mode for stills and never goes back to videos. Best used for JUST videos, or JUST stills. MP3 playback can be accessed by the built-in file bowser, but the app is very simple and has a bad static image 'screensaver' that could cause burn-in (it can be changed to a JPG from the USB). During video playback, you can seek through the playing video and play/pase, but not skip to the next or previous file.
